Automated Data Analysis in Microsoft Excel
The full size spectrum resolution and fast time response of the Cambustion DMS500 allows detection of events not previously measureable, but produces large quantities of data. To improve the efficiency of interpretation and presentation of this data, we have produced an add-in for Microsoft Excel which automates the import, summary and presentation of the data.
The add-in automates the import of .dms files into Excel. Files longer than Excel can handle are automatically split up into multiple sheets in the same workbook.
The contour plot is a common way of showing a long period of spectral data. Any of the analogue auxiliary data channels can be superimposed over the spectral data.
To review in detail transient spectral data, an animation can be produced which can be played at real speed, faster or slower, or navigated manually. Either graph can be weighted by any function of particle size.
The summary sheet allows the average spectrum over as many intervals as desired to be calculated and plotted. It also calculates the mean, median and standard deviation of particle size in any desired size ranges. These statistics and the spectrum can be weighted by number, length, area or volume or any other function, or calculation of a mass estimate.
The add-in also allows reinversion of data with different calibration functions. The on-line help includes instructions on using the add-in and useful information on formulae used in interpretation of aerosol size spectra.
System Requirements
The add-in requires Microsoft Office, versions from Office 2000 and later, running on Microsoft Windows XP only.
The add-in is provided installed on every computer supplied with a DMS500 and is available for download here for analysis of .dms files produced by others or on other computers.
