Vehicle Simulation System
Cambustion were amongst the first in the industry to simulate a full vehicle drivecycle on a transient engine dynamometer. Test-bed control software developed in-house enables a wide range of tests to be conducted:
- Drivecycle simulation for emission testing (NEDC, FTP, etc). The system has been correlated with real vehicle–based tests on a chassis roll.
- Steady–state or speed/load scheduled tests for basic engine calibration and mapping, and allowing the development and use of automated mapping techniques.
- Capability to simulate both manual and automatic transmissions.
- Integration of control system tools (such as Matlab / Simulink and ASCET-SD) with engine control software enables rapid prototyping and development of ECU control software which is fully vehicle transferable.
Transient Dynamometers
Cambustion currently has four transient test–beds with varying specifications:
- Power up to 220kW
- Torque up to 700Nm
- Speed up to 9000 RPM
- Ambient temperature down to -20°C
Cambustion has developed an engine pallet system which allows the engines to be mounted and tested before installation on the test–bed minimising down–time. The pallet system includes a forced cooling facility in order to maximise the test repeat rate.
Chassis Dynamometer
100 kW 48 inch emissions chassis roll dynamometer with robot driver and integrated pre–conditioning facility.
Diesel Particulate Generator
Cambustion offer additional DPF testing and development services using the non-engine Cambustion Diesel Particulate Generator
- DPF loading at up to 20g/hr
- Filter efficiency measurement
- DPF regeneration
- Advanced tests- e.g. Maximum Soot Load test
- Cold flow testing
- Diesel fuelled
Instrumentation
Gas Analysers (all diesel compatible)
Cambustion fast analysers are ideal for identifying and resolving the emission issues associated with a variety of transients such as cold start, gear shifts, DPF regeneration and NOx purges. The following can be available to each Cambustion test-bed:
- Fast HC, NO (and optional NOx converter), and CO & CO2 analysers.
- Horiba 7000 series analysers for THC, CH4, CO, CO2, O2, NOx, and EGR (CO2)
- Horiba UEGO lambda sensors
- MKS FTIR analyser
Particulates
- Gravimetric filter paper measurements (2 phases per cycle)
- Cambustion DMS500 Fast Particulate Spectrometer (response time < 200ms)
- AVL opacimeter
Combustion Analysis
- Wide range of in-cylinder pressure sensors
- Combustion analysis for IMEP, burn rates and knock detection.
Pressure and Temperature
- Pressure: 4 per test-bed (standard).
- Temperature: 8, 16 or 32 channels per test-bed. Higher channel counts are possible.
